Animal Art Show at Prince George Gallery

Animals, especially wild ones, have inspired me for many years. My joy in painting both cuddly and uncuddly creatures is apparent in the colorful and playful Animal Art show that will open Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Prince George Art and Frame on Jamestown Road in Williamsburg. Please come by for the opening reception (5:30 – 7:30 p.m., Nov. 1) or visit and watch me paint in the Gallery on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Experimental Water Media Workshop

This Century Art Gallery, Education Center,

Williamsburg, VA

Oct. 29, 30, 31, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

This is a fun class featuring a variety of experimental methods of working.  Students will learn to use a variety of materials to explore the possibilities of different water media when creating art. We will use watercolors, acrylics, inks, and more to form paintings with textures that become finished pieces you never expected to make.  Students will be shown how to use the very intense Doak paints, which are provided by the instructor, so there is a $20 supply fee. We will work on Yupo (a synthetic paper) which produces amazing and unexpected results. To learn more, please visit:

Earlier this year, I presented Experimental Water Media Workshops at Arts on the Main in Gloucester and at the Art Academy in Hilton Head Island, SC. I also gave demonstrations of my techniques at a conference in San Diego, CA and in Cielo Bella Gallery in Sedona, AZ.

Glacier National Park

We spent a week during the month of July at Glacier National Park. Our daughter, Allison, planned the excursion into this scenic Rocky Mountain site, and our other daughters, Alicia and Amy, joined us there. Using the Grand Hotel in Kalispell, MT for our base, we took the treacherous Going to the Sun Road, toured Lake McDonald by boat, strolled along scenic Avalanche Creek, took the park shuttle, hiked to Logan's Pass, and much more. We spent one day visiting the touristy community of Whitefish which featured several art galleries, including one that displayed only encaustic paintings - a favorite new art medium of mine. Whenever we visit a National Park, I am forever thankful to those with the foresight to preserve these natural treasures.

Other News and Events

Petersburg Regional Arts Center closed in July. The building is now under renovation and is expected to reopen mid-summer 2014 with many new studio spaces. Since I have had studios at the Center for the entire 10 years of its existence, the closure was bittersweet for me. Some of the displaced artists have rented other studio spaces in Petersburg. Much of my work is now in my home studio. I also have paintings at Prince George Art and Frame in Williamsburg, Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center in Glen Allen, Off the Vine in Lightfoot, and at Cielo Bella Gallery, Oak Creek Village in Sedona.
