Writing Your Own Book

People often tell me, "I want to write a book." But they haven't done it, and they relay a long list of excuses I've heard many times before.

"Just do it," I want to say.

I think about Christine Dorsey, one of the first published authors I knew a few years ago. Christine had a full-time job teaching special ed. She didn't have much time to write, but with all her heart she longed to have a published book. So she got up early each morning and wrote from 4 to 7 a.m. before she left for school. Working all those extra hours, she became the author of many novels. She was an inspiration for many of us who were members of the Virginia Romance Writers.

Getting up early to write is a good plan for some authors. Others prefer working late into the night. If you truly want to write a book, you can. Just set your heart on writing and do it.

Creative inspiration often comes in the middle of the night. Keep a notebook by your bed and jot down those little gems of inspiration.

Memoirs are quite popular right now. That's a good place to start. Just do it.

Inspired by Art

I am working on a new book and have found inspiration from my art as I write. In fact, my heroine is an artist which gives me a lot of material without having to do much research. If you are interested, please visit my blog http://tinyurl.com/7kw4xdc to see how a real life event inspired a scene in my story, Evening of the Dragonfly.

This year I am especially involved in art. Listed below are some of my gallery events as well as locations of some of the workshops I'm teaching. Please contact me directly for more information.
