Landscapes Near and Far, an exhibition of paintings by Mary Montague Sikes, opens Friday, June 9 at Petersburg Area Art League, 7 Old St. in Old Towne Petersburg with a reception from 6 to 10 p.m. Angel of the Marshland (West Point Creek), a large new acrylic painting on canvas, will be on view for the first time.
The one-person show will feature a variety of fantasy landscapes of North American scenes depicting vast panoramas of rugged mountain ranges in the far west as well as lush colorful vistas of the Caribbean. Other Sikes paintings portray the extraordinary ruinsmysterious and unexplainedleft us by the Mayans. Her pastel and acrylic paintings of Petersburg landmarks will fill one portion of the gallery.
Work by Sikes has received numerous awards and is in private and public collections in the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean. You may view her work in Studio 111 at Art Works, 320 Hull St., Richmond, VA; Crossroads Art Center, Richmond, VA; and Petersburg Regional Art Center, 132 N. Sycamore St., Petersburg, VA.
